Scale-up & Portfolio Operations

From promising technology to an organisation that can deliver.

As organisations grow, proving what is possible is only part of the challenge. Delivering repeatedly, managing commitments and scaling responsibly require a different level of operational clarity.

I bring experience from engineering, industrial transportation and safety-critical operations to help leadership teams translate ambition into priorities, operating capabilities and accountable execution. At skyguide, I held interim national operational responsibility, reporting to the COO.

When execution needs to catch up with ambition.

The first task is to identify the constraint that matters most.

A working technology concept is not yet an executable commitment. Technical readiness, customer promises, delivery capacity, resources and financial constraints must be considered together. The judgment lies in deciding what to advance, what to defer and what the organisation can reliably deliver.

Direction and priorities

Translate strategic ambition into clear operating choices, realistic milestones and focused resource allocation.

Organisation and accountability

Establish decision rights, responsibilities, coordination and management routines appropriate to the next stage of growth.

Delivery and industrialisation

Connect operational requirements, technical readiness, supplier interfaces, verification and execution planning.

Performance and risk

Make capacity, economics, dependencies and risks visible early enough to support better decisions.

Flexible involvement. Clear accountability.

Operating diagnosis

A focused assessment of the operating model, priorities, execution constraints and decision-making arrangements, with actionable recommendations.

Targeted execution support

Hands-on support for a critical transition, delivery programme or organisational challenge requiring cross-functional alignment and disciplined follow-through.

Embedded operating leadership

Depending on the organisation's needs, I can take on an executive leadership role, an interim mandate or a fractional COO arrangement. Each requires a clearly defined scope, decision-making authority and expected outcomes. The objective remains the same: strengthen the organisation's ability to deliver reliably and perform sustainably.

The mandate should address the operating constraint, complement the leadership team and make the expected contribution explicit.

Aligned with the people accountable for delivery.

For founders and leadership teams

Turn ambition into practical operating choices while building organisational capacity for reliable, repeatable delivery. The focus is on what the business can commit to and how it will deliver.

For investors and portfolio leaders

Assess operational readiness, execution dependencies and delivery risks to support credible milestones and resource commitments. The aim is to make delivery assumptions and capability gaps explicit before further commitment.

Operating experience behind the approach.

My perspective is grounded in more than fifteen years across complex transportation systems, industrial engineering and national safety-critical operations—including leadership responsibilities involving approximately 250 people, a CHF 70 million operating budget, and direct operational and financial accountability.

This experience has required making consequential choices, aligning experts and stakeholders, developing organisational capability and maintaining performance under constraints.
